Studies on the Internal Browning of Apple Fruits Caused by Excessive Boron Application

Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the potential association between fruit quality and physiological disorder of fruit caused by excessive boron application in apple fruit during storage. Fruit size tended to decrease while macrophoma rot and preharvest fruit drop increased in accordance with the increased level of borax application. Soluble solid contents, flesh firmness, weight loss and respiration rate of fruit during storage increased, but acidity of fruit decreased along with the increase of borax application. The occurrence of watercore and internal browning of fruit at harvest and during storage proportionally increased according to an increased amount of borax application. Watercore disappeared from January while internal browning seemed to be severe as the storage time increased.
